Juice bags are pricey, but pay you back with free solar power

We spotted this range of solar powered laptop bags over at one of our favourite stores, eBags, recently.

The range of Juice bags includes a tote style funky beach bag for surf girls, an urban camo messenger for the chic geek, a business folio for the young professional and a red and black messenger made from... wait for it.... recycled soda bottles.

That's right, apparently Juice have come up with a laptop bag that not only powers your gadgets using free solar energy, each one manufactured also prevents 8 plastic bottles from ending up in landfill.

Anything that has less environmental impact has to be good in our book, but in reality does being green cost you more green?

Well yes it does; the Juice range starts at £180 and goes up to £300 for the business case, but let's have a closer look at each of the bags to see what you get for your money.

Juice solar panel beach tote bag

The lowest priced bag in the Juice range, the Beach Bag is not really a laptop bag although it's big enough to use as one.

It's a simple affair with one side of the bag devoted to the all important solar panels and the rest of the bag fabricated from strong canvas material.

Inside, there is one large interior pocket, with an additional 'gadget' pocket for your devices.

The solar panel itself has a universal female adapter which you can use with any device, and a nice touch is that Juice have made the panel removable to allow for easy cleaning or just so you can use it separately. The base of the bag also is water-resistant thanks to a nylon coating and inside has a removable reinforcing panel.

ES300 Solar panel laptop bag

Of the four bags the ES300 is the most funky - in our opinion - being made from strong red fabric similar to nylon but which is in fact recycled from plastic soda bottles.

Apart from the solar panel, this is a fairly straightforward messenger style bag. The interior has a large main compartment with a padded divider to protect your laptop, as well as gadget pockets under the flap and additional document pockets inside the rear of the flap.

Whether it's the fact that it's red, or the eco-friendly status or just the fact that you can recharge your gadgetry on the go we're not sure, but we really like this product. Very cool.

Daylight Series Solar Messenger

This is like the big brother to the ES300.

Available in jungle camo fabric - which may not appeal to everyone, the Daylight Series features a slightly higher voltage (16.6V) and larger capacity compartment.

Pro Folio Solar laptop bag

This is the top of the range model featuring 2 main compartments and all the usual pockets and zipped pouches you'd need on a business laptop case. In addition the case has the same removable solar panel as the other bags in the Juice Bags range
